A Customizable Favor

Remember I mentioned I was helping a coworker with party favors for her son’s graduation? Well, today’s project is the final form that the favor took. I can’t show you the actual favors I made… they had pictures of her son and I didn’t want to post pictures of him without permission.

I wrapped a 14-pack of Orbit gum. I was able to get packs that were similar to the cardstock that I was using. I’m not sure what other flavors/colors are available. Perhaps you can get something close to your color scheme.

The other cool thing about this favor is that there is a lot of space to add pictures or information about your event.

For this sample, I turned it into a baby announcement.

It’s pretty straightforward to make. Start with a piece of cardstock 3-5/8″ x 7-1/4″. With the 7-1/4″ side along the top of your Simply Scored tool, score at 2″, 2-1/2″, 4-1/4″, 4-7/8″, and 6-7/8″. (June 7, edited to add: Sorry, it has come to my attention that I typed the measurements wrong. They should be: 2″, 2-1/2″, 4-1/2″, 4-7/8″, and 6-7/8″. Sorry for the confusion. See step-by-step construction in the June 7 post.)

Add a piece of sticky strip on the end with the narrow (3/8″ wide) panel. With gum facing up, place the side with Sticky Strip hanging over the top part of the gum pack, and wrap the rest around the bottom and up from the back. The part with Sticky Strip should match with a narrow panel, leaving a flap to cover the top.

You will need a way to hold the flap down. I used ribbon, and tied it around the right hand side. This allows your recipient to remove the gum but leave the ribbon on. Assuming that the decoration doesn’t get immediately thrown away and just the gum saved for later! 🙂

Time saver tip:

If you are making multiples, you can get 3 of these from one 8-1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock. Cut your cardstock to 7-1/4 x 11, then score as above. Add Sticky Strip to the narrow strip on one end. Finally, cut into 3-5/8 x 7-1/4 pieces, placing Sticky Strip side at top of trimmer (I use the retired guillotine trimmer, so this makes cutting the Sticky Strip + cardstock much easier). Not only do you save time with scoring, but attaching Sticky Strip, too!

Endless Birthday Wishes

Did you see that I mentioned that this stamp set is temporarily unavailable? The demand for this stamp set exceeded initial stock. A new shipment is expected to arrive. Until then, to prevent a big backlog, ordering of this item has been temporarily turned off. I’ll keep you posted as to when you can order this cute stamp set again! At least there will be another shipment…
