Today’s card is a three-in-one: three experiments or challenges in one card!
Here are the three things on this card:
- Use the Splicoast color challenge again: Kiwi Kiss, Tangerine Tango, Riding Hood Red
- Use Iridescent Ice with the Great Friend butterfly stamp
- Use the Curly Label Movers and Shapers moveable part without the larger piece (huh?)
And, here is the card.
Stamp set: Great Friend (Mini)
Ink; VersaMark, Kiwi Kiss
Paper: Tangerine Tango, Whisper White, Riding Hood Red
Accessories: Scallop Circle die, Curly Label Movers and Shapers XL die, Iridescent Ice, Stampin’ dimensionals
So, I used a different proportion of the challenge colors for this card. I used Tangering Tango as the dominant, with Riding Hood Red as the accent, and very little Kiwi Kiss.
I wanted to see if Iridescent Ice would be detailed enough to show the pattern on the butterfly. I think it came out pretty well. I really like the sparkle. And something about the embossing and then cutting it out… there is actually some natural curl to the finished butterfly. (I didn’t “fluff” the butterfly after cutting it out; it’s that way naturally, really!)
Finally, the last experiment was to see if I can use the moveable piece of the Movers and Shapers by itself. Remember I said that for shaped cards, you would have to use something that fits within the A2 profile? Well, why do you have to use it with that platform? Well, no reason at all! The only thing you need to do is to make sure it is thick enough to go through the Big Shot and still be able to cut.
Someone on Splitcoast posted this question and someone had already tried it out. They came out with the following sandwich, which starts from the bottom.
- Texturz Impressions Pad (the hard one, not the silicone one)
- Cutting pad
- Moveable piece, cutting side UP
- Your cardstock or whatever material you are cutting
- Cutting pad
So, I just had to try it. It also makes it easier to make a window card with a Top Note card, don’t you think? (Now, when did I post that?) It really works! It’s a little scary sounding, though. Since the moveable piece is really small, I hear a big “crack” as the piece clears the rollers. It’s only because the thickness changes so quickly. The cutting pads are still okay!
Now, the reason this question comes up… get ready for this…
… there are new pieces for the XL die base! They were released in the sneak peek. There will be 4 new pieces (all in one set, not available individually). Looks like they are designed to coordinate with the following punches:
- Scallop oval punch (introduced in the current Mini catalog)
- Modern label punch (introduced in the upcoming catalog; part of sneak peek also)
- Full heart punch
- Large star punch
So, even if you don’t have the Curly Label Movers and Shapers XL die, you can still make use of the new dies. Pretty cool, huh? I can’t wait (no, I didn’t pre-order them yet!) And I heard there’s even more Big Shot stuff that’s not in the preview.
